Little Joshua turned 3 weeks old this week (plus those 9 months). Time has gone by so fast and yet at the same time it seems like so much has happened since he was born and that it has been a lot longer than 3 weeks. We have gotten back to a lot of our regular routine; we are just learning that things take a lot longer now (ie it has taken me three days to post this blog!). Gone are the days of running a long list of errands or doing a lot of housework all in one day. If I can accomplish one major thing (grocery shopping or laundry, for instance) in a day, it has been a good day.
We are starting to learn and even anticipate Joshua's needs, which makes life easier for all of us. Josh had a doctor's appointment the other day and he now weighs 10 pounds 2 ounces and is 25 1/2 inches long (97th percentile for both). He is a growing boy! He feeds every 2-3 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night. Mommy is very tired. His doctor said to keep feeding him that regularly if he needs it. He said he isn't growing big because I feed him so much but rather he feeds so much because his body is growing so big! Oh boy. He's going to be taller than Tim in no time. He outgrew his "newborn" clothes after just 2 weeks and is already in the 0-3 month clothes.
It is so fun to watch Josh grow in other ways as well. He has been doing really well with "tummy time" and is really doing good at holding his head up. He is a very squirmy little guy and it seems like he is already trying to roll over. I know that sounds absurd at such a young age but sometimes when he is on his back, Josh will get his hips and legs over, he just needs to figure out how to roll his shoulders too. He finds things in the room and focuses on them for a long time. He likes the ceiling fan and toys that hang from his activity mat.
Also, just in the last day or so Josh has discovered his own tongue and has been sticking it out a lot. It's so cute. He is also starting to smile. Another "first" is that after his umbilical cord stump fell off last week we gave Josh his first bath at home. As soon as we put him in the warm water he peed everywhere! LOL He liked the bath part just fine but didn't like having his hair washed. I think I might have got some water in his ears and that's what he didn't like.
Here are some more pictures from the last few days.
